SUSTAINABLE AND ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PRODUCTION

In collaboration with the development organization Food For The Hungry in Burundi, the coffee cooperative CODEMU started in 2007 to cater to some of the many small coffee growers in Musema in Kayanza province.

The many seasonal workers are either disabled, widowed, orphaned or from the Batwa minority group.

The aim is to improve living conditions, e.g. by organizing the cooperative’s mini-washing station and supporting with training of the staff at the washing station as well as those who operate the peeling machine and further process the coffee.

The coffee cooperative CODEMU helps coffee growers increase their yields. The effort helps to make a difference by increasing the income of coffee growers and improving food security in this rural area.

BETTER PRICE FOR COFFEE GROWERS

The goal of producing “Specialty Coffee”, which can bring in a better price, has already been achieved. In the past, coffee growers were paid with vouchers that can be redeemed 4-6 months after harvest when the coffee is sold on the world market. Now a list price is paid when dropping off the coffee at the washing station. This has meant that many in the area would like to sell their coffee to the cooperative’s coffee laundry. In this way, you will be able to attract it best coffee.
